TheexcitementwhichhadbeencausedthroughthosepartsofSouthAmericawhichwehadtotraversewasimaginedbyustobepurelylocal,andIcanassureourfriendsinEnglandthatwehadnonotionoftheuproarwhichthemererumorofourexperienceshadcausedthroughEurope.ItwasnotuntiltheIverniawaswithinfivehundredmilesofSouthamptonthatthewirelessmessagesfrompaperafterpaperandagencyafteragency,offeringhugepricesforashortreturnmessageastoouractualresults,showedushowstrainedwastheattentionnotonlyofthescientificworldbutofthegeneralpublic.Itwasagreedamongus,however,thatnodefinitestatementshouldbegiventothePressuntilwehadmetthemembersoftheZoologicalInstitute,sinceasdelegatesitwasourcleardutytogiveourfirstreporttothebodyfromwhichwehadreceivedourcommissiono
